What's happening?

We are changing your water from surface water (Houston County Lake) to well water from our new well in Latexo.  

When?

This change will occur on Monday, July 15, 2024. 

How will this change affect my water quality?

This well water meets TCEQ and EPA safe drinking water standards. However, you will experience a temporary reduction in water quality during the transition due to flushing activities, reversal of water flow in pipes, disturbances of mineral deposits in pipes and the temporary mixing of two different types of source water. The transition will take two to three weeks, during which time you may notice water cloudiness, color changes, increased air in the lines and a "strong" chlorine odor or taste that will continually improve with use.

This well produces soft water, meaning it has very little mineral content and can feel "slippery" to the touch. This is anticipated and not a cause for concern but it is a permanent characteristic of this well water. Odor, color and clarity changes will improve with use but softness will remain. Over the next several weeks you will notice increased flushing operations in your area as we work to remove accumulated mineral deposits from water mains. You may also notice increased but consistent pressure, as we are now sending you water from an elevated storage tank pressurized by gravity. If you are worried about your water quality at any time please call us at 936-544-2986 so we can optimize our maintenance activities to improve your local water quality. None of these changes warrant boil water advisories. If we experience a pressure loss or line failure that requires a boil water advisory, we will issue that alert separately through KIVY, text and email.

Why are you changing my water?

Well water presents a more consistent water quality source than lake water, with a lower cost to produce, treat, and distribute. Our recent detection of elevated disinfection by-products in some of our surface water distribution systems accelerated our transition to well water.

Is this why my water rates increased?

No. This project was funded by our capital reserves. 

What's happening?

We are placing a new groundwater source online in the Latexo area. This involves reversing flow in some sections of downtown Latexo and changing from a purchased surface water source to a groundwater source. 

What's happening?

Installation of approximately 4,600 feet of 10” PVC water main in replacement of an existing 3” PVC water main.  This work will include installation of a hydrant, control valves, relocation of customer taps, and connection of the new pipe to existing facilities on FM 2663.  Work will be completed by Duplichain Contractors, their logo is below for reference.  Our engineer on this project is Craig Webb with Cross-Tex Engineers, Inc.
